As students head home for the holidays, it can feel lonely for those who are not able to make the trip home for Christmas Break. Although your friends are busy spending their holidays cozying up with family and high school friends, there are plenty of fun holiday activities right here in Toronto.

Check out these five holiday-themed activities going on in Toronto this month:

  1. Toronto Christmas Market

Every December, the Distillery District transforms into the beloved Christmas Market. With enchanting Christmas lights outlining the entire market, and Christmas tunes playing softly in the background, this will surely lift your spirits. It only costs $6 to get in, where you have access to local vendors, food stalls and general Christmas entertainment.

  1. Free Ice Skating at Nathan Phillips Square

Every year, Torontonians flock to Nathan Phillips Square for a Christmas skating session. Access to the rink is free, however you don’t have a pair of skates, you can rent a pair for $10 for a 2-hour period.

  1. Christmas at Black Creek Pioneer Village

Are you a history major? Or just a history lover? If so, experiencing a Victorian Christmas at the Black Creek village might be the holiday event for you. Not only that, but students can get into the village for $12, so bring your student ID to enjoy some mulled cider and the vintage holiday aesthetic.

  1. New Year’s Eve Fireworks in Nathan Phillips Square

A perfect way to start off the New Year is a good firework show. Head over to Nathan Phillips Square on December 31st to celebrate new beginnings and good fortune in 2019!

  1. Christmas movies at the Hot Docs Cinema

Do you want to give back to the community and watch holiday movies at the same time? At the Hot Docs Cinema, you can do exactly that. All you need to do is bring a cash gift or a non-perishable food item for donation to watch Christmas classics for free.

We hope you have a great holiday break whether you’re in the city or spending it with your family!

See you in the New Year!
