Taiwanese Sticky Rice

A family recipe for delicious, simple and comforting Taiwanese Sticky Rice. Perfect for students!

Taiwanese sticky rice


1Soak mushrooms in cold water until center is soft, takes approximately 1 hour. Make sure to squeeze out water from the mushrooms after.

2Slice mushrooms into long pieces.

3Slice pork chops in half lengthwise and then into thin strips.

4Place equal parts cooking oil and sesame oil to coat pan. Saute mushrooms until fragrant. Medium heat for approximately 3 minutes.

5Add pork to mushrooms and move around, keep pork cooking until browning (no pink), turn heat down to medium/medium low if needed.

6Add approximately 2 cups of water, bring to a boil and simmer, covered on a low heat setting for 20 minutes. Add less than 1/2 cup of shallots and 1 tsp of pepper.

7Mix rice with sauce and add remaining shallots.


5 dried shiitake mushrooms

2 pork chops, boneless

1 tbsp cooking oil

1 tbsp sesame oil

1/2 cup dried fried shallots

1 tsp pepper

3 - 4 cups sweet rice
