A lot of great things happen on campus on a regular basis, but certainly one of most heartwarming programs on campus is the UTSU Student Food Bank. The Student Food Bank is operated by a core group of volunteers, and a supervisor from the UTSU and is open once a week to provide free emergency food to students in need. It distributes a variety of perishable and non-perishable food items, no questions asked, to students who find themselves in an insecure food situation and enables them to stretch out their dollars a little further on items other than food. Food Services and Chef Jaco Lokker in particular are very proud supporters of the Food Bank.
Students in need of an emergency two to three-day supply of food can pick it up at the Koffler Multi-Faith Centre on Fridays from 12-3 PM in the foyer. In addition to the food distribution program, the UTSU sponsors a free, weekly vegan breakfast from 9:00-10:00 AM. The breakfast is a healthy and delicious way to start the day, and all students are welcome.
